How do you feel about the character/persona your playing in POWER?
I feel the character 'Omar Sutton' is a interesting person in the movie and that he's a really entertaining, fun person to play and I'm proud to be representing him as a character in the film. Do you relate to the character at all? No apart from obviously the looks and race as I'm the person playing him but personality wise were not the same at all. Do you think POWER is going to be a highly rated film? Yes well certainly I'll enjoy watching it myself but review wise I don't really have a clue how it'll go because it everyone will have a different opinion on the film. Overall i'll say yes it will have good reviews because the director Hugh Dineen done very well in production so far and it's set to be a great film What do you think about were the film's located? I think the setting is very interesting as not many urban street London films have been set in north London before even though this is were the London riots started in 2011 and the crime rates are very spontaniouse here. Yes it's a very well set location I believe as everyone in England i think wants to see films set in London one of the best cities in the world. Do you want this FILM to be made and for you to act in POWER?
Yes, i hope the film wins the competition so I can prove my acting skills and make this exciting story line come to real life. Also, I enjoy the role I have in the movie so yes i want the film to be made. Does the character you play relate to yourself at all? No, not in any way. Apart from how sometimes we may talk similar but that's just my voice in general. Are you looking forward to begin the acting for the film? Yes I can't wait to show people how successful the film will be and how we can prove the doubters wrong by making it a hit and for my reputation as an actor to get started and improve,. How do you compare yourself with the other actor Daniel Johannes in the film? I don't really because we have different role/personas. When you'r playing different people you can't compare each other as actors too much. 'POWER' is a 15 certificate movie as it sticks within the guidelines and follows the rules of what a 15 rated movie has to consist of. This includes the fact that drugs are shown but nor promoted or encouraged in the film altogether. Also, it does have strong language but not on such a high frequency to make it a 18. Another reason it's a 15 is because there is some sexual activity but not in strong detail making it fit within the guideline for a fifteen rated movie.
The rules of a 15 certificate rated movie are as follows: •No one under 15 may buy, rent or see a film in the cinema. •Discrimination - The work as a whole must not endorse discriminatory language or behaviour, although there may be racist, homophobic or other discriminatory themes and language. •Drugs – this can be shown but as w whole it can’t promote or encourage drug misuse. •Imitable behaviour - Dangerous behaviour (for example, hanging, suicide and self-harming) should not dwell on detail which could be copied. •Language - There may be strong language. Very strong language may be permitted, depending on the manner in which it is used, who is using the language, its frequency within the work as a whole and any special contextual justification. •No constraints on nudity in a non – sexual or educational content. May be with sexual context but without strong detail. •There may be strong threat and horror. A sustained focus on sadistic or sexual threat is unlikely to be acceptable. •Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable. Strong sadistic violence is also unlikely to be acceptable. There may be detailed verbal references to sexual violence but the depiction of sexual violence must be discreet and justified by context. The movie 'POWER' is a 15 certificate and the fact it doesn't disobey any of these guidelines makes it a 15 rated movie. This is shown in the images with behind the scenes footage of me taking photos and filming some of the short scenes.
POWER is based in north London, two boroughs Haringey and Barnet. Two gangs who've had many brutal encounters over the years but as there getting older there problems seem to get bolder and tension builds as the drama in the gritty streets of north London builds up. The problems are much worse then just a post code war, as Durim Berisha (Innis Berisha) and Omar Sutton (Daniel Johannes) battle it out without thought of the sirens or the consequences. The action in the movie involves fight scenes to shoot outs as the poverty in London seems to make everyone dislike each other. The film shows every day life for a small proportion of the people in London and that many young people are influenced by gangs or violent people from a young age. The two gang leaders fight to earn the most money, respect and most importantly who has the most power in the area...
Don't forget, gangs in London are everywhere watch this film and you'll learn there could be one near you! The second day of the production process involved choosing the main characters/gang leaders (the actors). We then chose to have Innis Berisha and Daniel Johannes, two experienced actors with impressive CV's. We also gave these characters there lines that they had to memorise and the accents which they had to use in the movie. Innis had to use an Albanian accent as his character is not from London and Daniel was given a real cockney 'London' slang accent that he can do very well. Hugh Dineen (producer) also gave each actor starring in the movie a page on what the films about and how the plot unfolds giving them a better understanding of what each actors doing and how there characters should act.
'POWER' is going to be a fantastic movie that's based in the gritty streets of north London. The film starts off in Haringey, in Durim Berisha's (actor ' Innis Berisha') estate were he plays a well acted role of an Albanian mob boss. This part of the film is produced well and very exciting. After, it changes to show the other London borough, Barnet which Omar Sutton ('Daniel Johannes') runs his estate which is filled with young teenagers all below age 18. This part of the movie made me feel very emotional having this leader influence all the kids in to doing bad things. The movie also shows what it's like as a mum watching there kids turn in to thugs and not being able to do anything. The film also points out at the end this happens in all sides of London as is an ongoing sad process were kids can easily fall in to the wrong lifestyle simply by just hanging around with the wrong people. The film 'POWER' has a sad brutal ending i've been told, leaving me almost in tears of the thought. cant wait to see the film and know it will be a great watch, definitely recommend to anyone out there looking for a good film.
8.5/10 - David Goward On the first day of production Hugh Dineen (director/producer) had to choose his cast and characters for the film. He also had set were POWER was going to be located (set) which he decided Barnet and Haringey. Here are some of the side characters (gang members) of the cast he picked.
The group on the left would represent the Barnet gang, run by Omar Sutton. The group on the right would represent the Haringey gang, run by Durim Berisha. |
